How did the game basketball begin?  Why did Dr. James Naismith introduce the game in the United States?

James Naismith was born in Ramsay Township, Ontario, Canada, but since his 30s he worked as a instructor at the YMCA International Training School (now Springfield, Massachusetts). Basically, he was looking for something his rugby and football players could do during wintertime. It all started with peach baskets nailed to gymnasium balcony, soccer balls and games played inside wire cages, and in 100+ years evolved into the game we now love and respect.
