Basset Hound/good collar for basset?

Question
We have a wonderful 2 yr old Basset hound, but cloth/nylon collars that are fitted properly rub her neck skin raw, and loose collars come off.  We've been using a chain collar, but everyone we see thinks we're horrible.  Is there a collar made for dogs with a lot of neck wattle?

Answer
Hi Theresa,

My Dudley has this same problem.  :)  I've used a chain collar as well...hooking the tag around both O rings so that the chain doesn't slip.  I've also tied his tags in the knot of a bandana.  Both of these solutions seemed to have solved the problem along with using a harness on walks rather than a collar.  Hope that helps!

BTW - I've tried almost every type of store collar out there...leather, nylon, cotton...and had the same problem as you're having.  Fitted makes the neck raw and loose comes off.  :(  I've yet to find anything in a store that works aside from the chain collar.

Expertise

I will offer assistance to anyone needing help with general Basset Hound care, health and behavior/training. I do not, however, assist those who have bred their pet. If you are responsibly breeding, you shouldn't have simple questions as your mentor should be providing you all the instruction you need.

Experience

I currently own a 5 year old Basset Hound and his 6 non-basset siblings...(a mutt and 5 Boxers). I have studied dog behavior and training extensively and train my own dogs.
