Experience in the area: I teach the following stitches/projects: peyote, brick, netting, St Petersberg chain, spiral rope, dutch spiral, beaded pens, beaded Christmas ornaments, earrings, pouches, necklaces, bracelets - just about anything beaded, I have tried it.

I am new to using a crimp tool. I ruin several crimp ends (not crimp tubes) trying to make book marks. The crimp end I am using is U-shaped and has a loop moulded to the end. What is the step-by-step method (a visual would help me) to closing this crimp end using the crimp tool?

I need to see what the ends you are using looks like. Please give me a link if possible.
the problem is the crimp pliers. You don't use them for this kind of end. Crimp pliers are for crimp beads not the crimp ends. The link you sent me indicates that you use flat or chain nosed pliers and pinch it flat. It isn't meant to be crimped in the manner that crimping pliers crimp.
