Question
I get my beagle in about a month and I am very excited.  I have been on thousands of sights reading about how to house train them and food to feed them, you name it I have read it. I do have one question. I work 7am to 3pm five to six days a week. I hear about the problems people have and I will use the tv and some say to put an old shirt that smells like me in the crate… I’ll do that too. I was wondering if I were to leave the puppy alone for 4 hours if that would be ok for the dog. I will take it out before work and around 11am and then when I get home.  I  could use all the info you could give. Thank you

Answer
Bobby, It sounds great that you are already working on a care plan. Leaving your beagle pup for 4 hours should be fine.  Of course, the more you can be with him or have someone come over to take him out the better. I always suggest talking to the person that holds your spare key about taking your dog out when it isn't possible for you to take him out (or feed him). Something always happens ie traffic, working late.
I would suggest that you get up a little earlier and take him for a walk in the am before work. Also, you can put a ticking clock under his bed or blanket. This will simulate the mothers heartbeat. I have used the shirt method to make my beagles feel more secure. I use to take my undershirt off and put it on a pillow for one of my pups.

Fellow beagle lover,

Kenny
