Beatles, The/revolver lp
Expert: Pattie - 12/22/2008
QuestionQUESTION: hi there
i have a revolver lp and i was wondering if you could help me out with a little something about it.
it has the song 'your mother should know' on it, which was from the magical mystery tour album.
it has made me wonder if it is a fake or a rare, i have asked other beatle fans about this and they have said they have never seen such a thing...
i am aware that it isnt an original from the 60's (at least i think it is) but i still think it is quite strange how it is on revolver.
hope you can help and thanks for your time =]

ANSWER: Hey Mavvy! (don't I know you? LOL)
Well, if it were an original, you'd have the rarest item in the world, because Paul didn't write that song until 1967 and Revolver was released in 1966. Sounds like you have either a bootleg or a foreign re-release (probably from the 1980's). I've heard about LP's being pressed for re-release in other countries that have odd tracks on them. Check the cover and labels carefully, if it's a foreign press, it should be on there somewhere. Is the song itself actually on the vinyl or is it just listed on the cover? Regardless, it's a rare item, even if it's not vintage. If you take it to a store in your area specializing in rare records, they may be able to determine if it's a bootleg, foreign or a weird re-release (and the year it was made). They may even offer to buy it simply as a fluke. Where did you get it? Was it sealed or used? What I find most odd is that if it were bootlegged that way, there would be other copies floating around and I've never heard of this particular bootleg. Can you take a picture of it and send it to me? Great question!
Peace,
Pattie

thank you very much for your answer :)
i have just had a closer look at the back and in small print it says E.M.I RECORDS (South East Asia)LIMITED SLPEA-1005 so i am guessing it is a foregin re-release.
the song does play on the record and it was given to me.
here are some pics:

if it isnt too much trouble, has there been any other albums that have been like this before?

AnswerHey again, Mavvy!
Thanks for the pictures. Well, one thing I've determined from the product # is that it's most likely from Singapore. They did release a number of albums in the 70's and early 80's that were "odd", so yes, this has happened before. To be honest, I've not seen it on a Beatles LP, this is a first, but I'm sure there are others. They're not particularly careful about things like that over there, at least not at that time. It's still very valuable. Hang on to it!!! See you on the forum!
Peace,
Pattie
