Question How did George form the band The Traveling Willburies?
Answer Hiya Ava,
From what I've read in the past, George was haing dinner with ROy Orbison and Jeff Lynne one night and asked lynne to go into the studio the next day - Harrison was going to try and make a song up. George knew Bob Dylan had a studio closeby, and decided to call him up (Thinking he'd leave a message, because he hadn't talked with him for years). Dylan answered on the first ring, and said, 'sure come on over'. Harrison had his guitar at Tom Petty's place, and Petty and Lynne picked up George - They then all went to Dylan's and were talking. Someone was just rambling out lines like, "Been beat up...battered around..." They then were thinking of a title to a song for all these phrases they were throwing out - George saw a box with the words "HANDLE WITH CARE" on it. This became their first song for the album. They decided to see if an album can come through.
Dylan was gonna be away in a couple weeks from that time, so they decided to all meet up for the time prior to Dylan leaving. They started to record at Dave Stewart's house (Stewart was in the band 'Eurythmics' with Annie Lennox - Stewart is also a big-time producer, and was in the Tom Petty video "Don't Come Around Here No More"), They all enjoyed the atmosphere of the surroundings. Stewart's recording area was aomewhat small (for five guitarists), so they decided to all sit in his Kitchen and record the songs!)
I hope this answers your question.
Take care,
Steve
