Question
Hi James

What does it mean that somebody plays "third on the bill"?

Does it mean that the band starts as the first one or the last one before the main band comes out on the stage?

P.S. English is not my first language :)

thanks

Answer
Third on the bill references the advertising used to promote a show.  For example, if a poster said:

The Beatles
with The Shirelles, The Vikings and The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are third on the bill.  The Beatles are at the Top of the bill and the Shirelles are first on the bill.  It is best to be closer to the top of the bill as the bands would play in reverse order of the billing.
