Question
QUESTION: hi Pattie, I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a box set  of 3 lps of the boys live in hamburg. one lp is titled the silver beatles, and the other two the beatles live. I have had it for around 20-25 years now and have only seen one other like it. it was made in holland. i was wanting to know if it anything you had come across before and if it was a good box set to have? cheers mark

ANSWER: Hi Mark!

Yes, I'm somewhat familiar with that set, although I haven't seen it in quite a while. I think it came out in 1982. I'm not positive, but did it come in a white box with "The Beatles" in black lettering? There have only been a few box-sets from Holland that were commercially available, and that's not one of them, so what you have is a very decent bootleg. I'm a collector of bootlegs, so yes, I think it's a great set to have. Keep it in good shape because it's a decent collectible. Thanks for the question!

Peace,
Pattie

QUESTION: thanks for that pattie, I know you are not a valuer, but do you think this box set could be worth anything or not. I also have revolver lp which looks like was produced in greece, any good?

ANSWER: Hi again, Mark!

Oh, absolutely, it's worth something. I do appraisals, but it's so difficult to give an accurate appraisal without seeing the actual item. However, in the case of this boxed set, if you have it in mint condition, that includes the box, all the discs and labels, everything, you could sell it for about $125, even though it's a bootleg. As for your copy of Revolver, I'd need to know which pressing it is. If it's an original 1966 Greek pressing in mint condition, you could safely sell it for about $100. Hope that helps and thanks again for the question!

Peace,
Pattie

QUESTION: cheers again,
the box set vinyls are in mint condition, the box is a little faded and torn slightly. The interesting thing about this set is the labels on the vinyl don't all match the songs actually on them. Would that make a difference? As for the revolver album, it is 1966 and in  decent condition.
thanks again

Answer
LOL...well, that's a bootleg for ya. They never were very careful about things like that. I'll stand behind my appraisal for the box set at $125. On "Revolver", I'm not sure what your definition of "decent" is. In mint condition, it would have to have no visible scratches, mars or even basic wear and tear. It should play with no audible pops or noise. The cover can have no splits, worn areas or scrapes. Same with the label. Basically, as good as it can get without actually still being sealed. When I hear the word "decent", I assume it's probably in good condition, with minimal scuffing and scratches, which would bring the value down to about $65. I was in a record store over the weekend and looked at a copy of "Rubber Soul" from Finland in mint condition and it was priced at $100, so that's about the average these days. Good luck selling it. You shouldn't have problems doing so. However, if you take it to a dealer as opposed to selling it yourself, keep in mind you'll get far less than it's actual value.

Peace,
Pattie
