Beatles, The/Japanese Beatles singles

Question
Hi: I have a collection of Japanese Beatles singles that I got circa mid-late 1970s. I have several dozen: some of them are on the Apple Records label and the others are on EMI/Odeon. I was just trying to get an idea of the value of these? The Apples 45s typically have four tracks on them though some have two. I know the EMI/Odeon singles came after the Apple releases.

Anyway, was just hoping you might have some idea. I truly appreciate it.

Best,
Steven

Answer
Hi Steven!

Thanks for the question. Currently, I'm no longer doing appraisals online. The value of Beatles memorabilia has skyrocketed in the past 6 months or so, mostly because of the rash of new products coming out this year and next, like the Beatles Rock Band, the newly digitised CD packages, etc. That makes it impossible to give an accurate price. A 45 that sold on eBay last year for $10 may go for $100 right now. I will give you some info though. The 45's that you're referring to with 4 tracks on them are called "EP's" or "extended play" singles. Those were very popular for quite a while, especially in Japan. As for the value, any time you're trying to ascertain the value of something, you need to be able to see the condition of the piece as well as know which record you're referring to. Some are more valuable than others. Are they scratched? Do they skip? Do you have the original picture sleeves? So many variables need to be taken into consideration. However, just to use one as an example, if you had the Japanese Apple EP #AP4570 (Misery, Anna, Chains, I Saw Her Standing There) in the original sleeve, in VG+ condition, the value would be roughly $35. Your best bet right now, is to determine their condition and start checking on eBay to see what other people are selling them for in the same condition. I wish I could give you more information, but without knowing titles and condition my hands are sort of tied on this. Good luck and thanks for the question.

Peace,
Pattie
