Question

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR a
Hi PAtti!
Hopefully you can help me or steer me in the right
direction. I too am a huge Beatles fan & have been since i
was about10 years old.  I wasn't around for them in the
sixties, but in the late 70's/early 80's i think i just
became obsessed after learning to love them second hand(my
older brothers definitely shaped my musical tastes).Anyway,
in 1987, when i was 17, i went to this record show at a
popular local city thoroughfare.  I didn't have much money,
but i was looking around just trying to maybe find some old
Teen Beat mags or the like.  This guy had a long folding
table with tons of old mags on it, so i was going through
them one by one. Well, in between some of these mags i found
an old insert folded up that had at one time been removed
from one of these, i think.  I opened it carefully & almost
DIED when i saw what it was! I had found a graphic
advertisement that went in to one of these magazines, i
think, for Magical Mystery Tour. I knew right away that i
had found something special because i had seen it listed in
one of my Beatles memorabilia books(i've enclosed photos
from book). The caption next to the image in my book says "An
impossible-to-find graphic advertising MAGICAL MYSTERY
TOUR." This guy had no idea what he had & i bought it for
$5. I know i have an original because of the print on the
back that comes through in the cloud area...it is the same
in the book.
I've since conservation framed it with acid-free mats & UV
protective glass. I have never had it appraised, mainly
because i wan't sure where to go. I have tried to get a hold
of the author of the book (THE BEATLES: A CELELBRATION by
Geoffrey Giuliano)with absolutely no luck. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!! I'd be glad to email you additional
photos because i could not include more than one here.
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Monique!

Sorry this took so long, but I've been away all day and just got in. First of all, congrats on such a cool find. It's amazing what's actually out there and even though most people are pretty savvy about knowing what's valuable and what's not, that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of fantastic bargains out there if you look hard enough. That particular ad is valuable. I don't actually do online appraisals any more, but considering it's age and the obvious good care you've given it, I'd say it was worth about $200 in today's market. You've done all the right things to preserve it. Just make sure you don't have it hung anywhere in direct sunlight or have any sort of light shining directly on it.

If you're trying to reach Geoffrey Giuliano, I can't really help you there. Personally, I'm not a big fan of his work. However, you may be able to reach him via his publisher. He used to be with Cooper Square Press, but may have moved on from there. I know he's had an association with Random House, so you may want to try them. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. You've got a fantastic collectible. Keep it safe and thanks for the question!

Peace,
Pattie
