Beatles, The/Abbey Road Vinyl Very Unique
Expert: sarah - 9/6/2010
Question
Well I went to the flee market yesterday, and I picked up one of my favorite albums on vinyl(Abbey Road). I got home and did a little research because I love to learn about vintage music history. I noticed the label on the actual record was nothing like any of the ones on the computer. I found one sight saying it was worth $450 and was produced in Jacksonville. It could of been right or totally wrong. I just want to know a little more about it because I know someone has to know something. I want to know some history about it, if it is rare, possible pricing of the album, and any thing else that would be great to learn about it. I have 4 pictures below of the front and back cover, and the 2 sides of the album. I know it is not a reproduction because it has the square sewer right under John's feet. Please respond soon!

AnswerHello Michael,
I saw the photos you posted. Yes you are right, the LP you have was produced in Jacksonville, and it is very rare. I guess it can be worth 500 dollars.
"...SHORT HISTORY OF THE 3 ABBEY ROAD COVER VARIATIONS
Abbey Road (released October 1, 1969) was the first Beatles album in America
packaged with print-on-board covers. These covers involved
the process of printing the cover image directly onto white
posterboard, which is then folded and glued to form the album jacket.
The previous Beatles album covers were constructed by affixing separately
printed slicks to cardboard jackets. The new print-on-board covers were a
superior looking package. Another advantage was that these covers
were manufactured by one company, whereas the older style covers
involved both a printer and an album fabricator.
Capitol documents indicate that the album's artwork was shipped on September 11,1969.
COVER # 1 : FIRST BATCH
The first batch of covers (SC1A, Spizer) do not list Her Majesty on the
back cover track listing. The front cover has more of the crosswalk at the
bottom edge of the cover, and includes a portion of a square road sewer positioned on the bottom edge of the cover, beneath Ringo and John's feet."
Good Luck
