Question
Hi Nick, I was wondering if you could tell me exactly what George Harrison is talking about in his song, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." ?  Especially where it keeps talking about "I don't know why..."  Thank you.

Andrew

Answer
Hi Andrew,
I had no idea about it. I've always thought it expressed some kind of disease Harrison was feeling at the time.
Anyway I found that according to A Hard Day's Write by Steve Turner, Harrison took the idea from I Ching, the Chinese book of changes. In Eastern culture everything is related to another while in western one we tend to considerate relations as coincidence.
So the story goes that with this idea George started writing a song with the first two words found in a book: Gently weeps.

I guess that could be a start: anyway he of course worked on the lyrics.
In the end, I remain in my opinion that I wrote in first lines of this mail.
Hope it helps.
N.

Expertise

I`m an italian Beatle fan who`s been studying, playing, reading The Beatles for more than twentyfive years. I can answer about recording sessions, lyrics, biography, instruments and more. I`ve been playng bass guitar and their music for years and know pretty much about their music and composition. I own a double complete discography (on vinil and on cd) and lots of books about them. I regret not to be so expert about their films and personal careers, but I think I can answer nearly any question about their life and music in the period 1940 - 1970.

Experience

Usually, no Trivia on The Beatles leaves me without words. Moreover I've been playing bass guitar and their music for nearly twenty years and I can discuss on this matter quite deeply. Please no questions about vintage Lps', collectors items' or memorabilia value.
