Question
If you have seen the Beatles prior to 1963 you may know that they did a lot of stage antics that Epstein later had them take out. Since I have a band I am looking for some of these things. I know about the "stomp", and the fact that they would start a song by running up to their mics. Anything else you can share? btw, I play rhythm guitar and live in St. Louis, MO. USA

Answer
Hi, Val,

Sorry, but I've never heard of the "stomp". I did indeed see them on stage in a dance hall (early '63 maybe), but I don't recall any antics.

Maybe this refers to their Hamburg days when they were on stage for hours at a time. As with all young groups, they liked their beer, and no doubt fooled around a lot (non-sexually, I mean!) while performing.

Here's some Google stuff on "Beatles in Hamburg":-

Experience

There was something in Paul's voice when he sang the phrase "Love Me Do" at the end of the verses that told me everything in Pop was going to change, and it did! I left my first band (which I had founded), partly because the other members thought I was a bit weird to want to change our style to reflect that of the Beatles! As a rock musician, I appeared with them in the ABC Theatre in Blackpool, England in 1963, and my songwriting has always been influenced by theirs.
