Question
Hi Chalk my name is Aaron and I am just getting interested in The Beatles again after ten or eleven years. Being that I am only twenty four years old I was wondering if you could tell me what was their biggest selling single song of all time and how much it sold statistically in the U.K., U.S., Australia, and around the world. I would also like you to tell me what is there anthem or in other words there most recognizable song. I was also wondering although I believe that these three songs were never performed live by the band is there any footage of them performing the songs Paperback Writer, Eleanor Rigby, and Yellow Submarine on the net that I can download from an old computer with Windows 98? I feel that The Beatles were an extremely important part of my childhood and they are the greatest rock pop band in history and am grateful for your help Chalk. My final question is could you refer me to a website that has an interesting biography on The Beatles with ten or more pages with many exciting and unkown facts on the band? Thanks Chalk:Sincerely Aaron R. Wake

Answer
Hi, Aaron,

Their biggest selling single song, Google is often the answer to this kind of question: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Beatles+biggest+selling+single+song&btnG=...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Beatles+%22biggest+selling+single%22&btnG...

Regarding their most recognizable song, it has to be "Yesterday" in my opinion. But "She Loves You" also qualifies, and of course "Hey Jude" too. This page is amazing for finding all you need to know about each song: http://www.beatles-discography.com/beatles-music.html

As for footage of them performing any particular songs, I'm really not an expert in that field. But here's a start for you: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22Beatles+footage%22&btnG=Search&meta=

The OpenDirectory is a great source of info: http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/B/Beatles/Fan_Pages/ - you should get some about exciting and unknown facts there, or again do a a Google search.

Here's a bio, but there must be many more around the Net: http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/The-Beatles-Biography/9B5665A6978FDF4B482...

With the Internet as a resource, and the Beatles as such a well-known phenonemen, you should be able to find a lot more.

Hope this helps... Have fun!

Chalk.

Experience

There was something in Paul's voice when he sang the phrase "Love Me Do" at the end of the verses that told me everything in Pop was going to change, and it did! I left my first band (which I had founded), partly because the other members thought I was a bit weird to want to change our style to reflect that of the Beatles! As a rock musician, I appeared with them in the ABC Theatre in Blackpool, England in 1963, and my songwriting has always been influenced by theirs.
