A web site I found listed The Beatles For Sale LP an UK release only. Was this album ever released in the US?

No, Capitol "butchered" this album and released the tracks on subsequent US only releases such as "Beatles 65'" and "Beatles VI"
UK albums held 13-14 tracks and Capitol decided to let their albums only hold 12, so the remaining tracks could be sold as "new albums" - The Beatles thought of this as "Butchering" their well thought albums/tracklistings which is how the idea of the infamous "Butcher Cover" came out for "Yesterday and Today"
