Beatles, The/'Live' Recording

Question
Hi, I have a question about the Beatles overdubbing instruments in their early career as opposed to recording 'live'. I read somewhere that the Please Please Me album was recorded live and overdubes weren't used until recording With The Beatles. But I noticed some songs on Please Please couldn't really have been recorded live. Such examples include I Want To Hold Your Hand (the handclaps had to have been overdubbed I assume) and Please Please Me (Lennon plays both harmonica and guitar, and in the Beatles Gear book it says Lennon didn't use the harmonica neck clamp until playing songs like I'll Get You live). Can you try to clear this up? Thanks.

Answer
Mark,
You're right.
In Please Please me there are overdubs, very little overdubbing actually.
You're right about Please please me (the song). other overdubs on A taste of Honey (vocals), There's a place (HArmonica), Do you want to know a secret (vocals) Misery (song recorded at double speed to obtain an easier overdubbed piano)
Hope it helps

Expertise

I`m an italian Beatle fan who`s been studying, playing, reading The Beatles for more than twentyfive years. I can answer about recording sessions, lyrics, biography, instruments and more. I`ve been playng bass guitar and their music for years and know pretty much about their music and composition. I own a double complete discography (on vinil and on cd) and lots of books about them. I regret not to be so expert about their films and personal careers, but I think I can answer nearly any question about their life and music in the period 1940 - 1970.

Experience

Usually, no Trivia on The Beatles leaves me without words. Moreover I've been playing bass guitar and their music for nearly twenty years and I can discuss on this matter quite deeply. Please no questions about vintage Lps', collectors items' or memorabilia value.
