Question
Hi, I have a question about the Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You singles as opposed to the album version. I know on the single, Ringo didn't play drums and instead played tambourine and maracas. Did they re-record it for the album though with Ringo on drums, or is it the same version they used with Andy White on drums? Thanks.

Answer
Hi, Mark,

I really don't know much about various versions of their recordings - I just bought the records as they came out, and that was what I heard. As far as they know, the singles were the only versions of Love Me Do/ P.S. I LoveYou relased at the time.

But here's a very interesting page on "Love Me Do": http://www.icce.rug.nl/~soundscapes/DATABASES/AWP/lmd.shtml plus a whole site on their recordings at http://www.recmusicbeatles.com/ - there are some great links there, including one to Alan W. Pollack's 'Notes On' series", from which the page on "Love Me Do" comes. Fabulous info. This may help too: http://www.995themountain.com/guides/aahtml/fab45.html Enjoy yourself!

Other links worth investigating:-

I hope this is useful to you.

There was something in Paul's voice when he sang the phrase "Love Me Do" at the end of the verses that told me everything in Pop was going to change, and it did! I left my first band (which I had founded), partly because the other members thought I was a bit weird to want to change our style to reflect that of the Beatles! As a rock musician, I appeared with them in the ABC Theatre in Blackpool, England in 1963, and my songwriting has always been influenced by theirs.
