Question
QUESTION: Hello there-

I recently picked up an original mono pressing of Sgt. Pepper's.  It is stamped with the number '59' (in black ink) on the back of the gatefold, the back of the inner sleeve and on the label of side 1.  Were there "officially" numbered copies of Sgt. Pepper's on the Capitol label, and, if so, are they rare?

ANSWER: Hi,

There were no numbered copies of Sgt. Pepper.  It is likely that a previous owner/store may have catalogued the album in some way.  There were numbered copies of "The Beatles" white album on the Capitol label in the US.

Hope that helps!

QUESTION: Are you quite sure?  It certainly looks official (rather than haphazardly done by an individual).

Thanks again,

Dave

Answer
Yes, I am sure.  I did some more research just to be sure I'm sure.  It is possible that the numbering could have also been cataloguing by a radio station.  If you'd like to send pics to andersonj529@sacredheart.edu , I'd be happy to look into it further but have no record (no pun intended) of there ever being any official numbering on Sgt. Pepper records.
