Beatles, The/Sgt Pepper's

Question
Paul's brother, Michael?, published a book of photos on the band in their early years well prior to Sgt Pepper's.  One photo had Paul in front of a wall hanging displaying a print of a poster(?) spelling "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band."

Was there such a band?

Answer
As far as I know, there wasn't such a band - I always thought that they made up the name for the album. Perhaps they had the name in their heads long before. Or perhaps there was an unknown band with that name in Liverpool, though that would have come out, I suppose...

I really can't be more precise. Sorry. I've done some searching in Google for you, but no luck. Maybe you should try another expert on this?

There was something in Paul's voice when he sang the phrase "Love Me Do" at the end of the verses that told me everything in Pop was going to change, and it did! I left my first band (which I had founded), partly because the other members thought I was a bit weird to want to change our style to reflect that of the Beatles! As a rock musician, I appeared with them in the ABC Theatre in Blackpool, England in 1963, and my songwriting has always been influenced by theirs.
