Hi Debra,

Your copy of Let It Be would appear to be a combination of the original UK boxed edition - released in UK May 8 1970 - and the UK re-issued edition - released in UK Nov 6 1970. It's the catalog number that gives it away - PCS 7096 being the catalog number of the re-issued edition. The boxed set's number was PXS 1. Hope this helps.

You say that the box set with the book never have been available in any shop. I remember that it was sold in record shops in Sweden.

I'm sorry to say that the statement about which countries issued The Beatles' "Let it Be Box Set" is incomplete. Nicaragua is missing, and I can say that because one copy lies in my LP room.

Regards,

R.Lins

I am researching the value of the Let It Be LP with Book set. I can attest to the fact the set was sold by the Tower Records store in San Francisco on Columbus and Bay St. (the only Tower in SF at the time. My roomate and I drove our Honda 350's across the SF Bay bridge from Oakland for the one intention of buying the record the day it was released. Once we got to Tower Records we were pleased to see that it had the book included. This was in 1970. My roomate and I each bought the set and as you mentioned we discarded the sleeve that the book was set in.

I wanted to add to this. I have a UK box set that was purchased in a used record store in NYC in 1990. The only difference with this box set compared to the others I have seen, is this has a insert advertising all of the Apple LP's available by Spring 1970. These include Beatles, solo Beatles, Jackie Lomax, Billy Preston, Mary Hopkin etc.

I don't have it in front of me right now, but is is slightly larger than an LP sleeve and is folded over at about the 1/3 mark. The LP covers are in color and the paper is glossy. Was this an insert that came with the box set, or did someone just insert it into the box after the fact? I think it came with the box, since the Apple LP's that are advertised are from 1968-early 1970.

Thanks!

According to the rarebeatles.com website, PCS 7096 meant it was issued in the Phillipines,(extra rare!). PSX 1 was the most common British catalog number. Sorry to add to the mystery.

I live in the UK and bought the Let it Be set on the day of release at a regular record shop. It cost 59/11 (£2 19s 11d), about £1 more the regular price of LPs at the time. I'm not aware of the mail order bit option which you mention.

I specialise in the records that the Beatles released. My expertise is in the British and American pressings but I`m sure I will be able to help with any record you may own. I`ve been heavily into the record-collecting side of the Beatles for over 11 years now (since I weas 12) and have slowly built my knowledge and credibility to such a point that I am one of the big UK experts in the field. Do you have an album of theirs perhaps that you`d like valued or would like some information on? I`m sure I can help.
