Beatles, The/green swirl label
Expert: Steve - 5/19/2006
QuestionHi Steve. Was it 5 or 6 singles released by the fab.four in Oct. 1965 in US? For how long could you find these in shops before they were recalled? Are there a special west coast versus east coast labels to find?
Do you know why Capitol recall these releases?
Thanks Bjorn.
Answer Hi Bjorn
The Beatles came out with 6: "Love Me Do/P.S. I Love You" , "Please Please Me/From Me To You", "Twist And Shout/There's A Place", "Do You Want To Know A Secret/Thank You Girl", "Roll Over Beethoven/Misery", and "Boys/Kansas City-Hey Hey Hey Hey" on Oct 11, '65, with the single "We Can Work It Out/Day Tripper" being released ~ 7 weeks later on Dec 6th. Its incredible to believe the US really didn't receive much of their material until the group had morphed into their next phase. They were probably in the shops until the Christmas season arrived. The singles were released on the "Capitol Starline" label, and I do not know if they had any type of west vs. east difference. I also am not sure why Capitol recalled them. There was still a flurry of "Beatlemania" here, and Capitol cashed in as best as they saw it. They then were releasing new LPs (and EP's) that they manufactured, with the Beatles themselves trying to plan how Capitol can stop this. It wasn't until "Sgt. Pepper's" that the Beatles had gotten their wish.
I hope this answered your question.
