Question
I am using PET 3 liter bottles, if the presure seems to high can they be burpted?

Answer
James:

I don't see why not, although you might experience a bit of foaming if they aren't cold.  You can probably crack the screw top a bit to release pressure, and watch that they don't foam too much.  Chilling them down to the 30's will help keep that to a minimum.  Another solution is to be a bit more dilligent in not bottling before the fermentation is complete and then measuring out your priming sugar more carefully.  If you put the sugar directly in the bottles that could be part of the problem.  I mix up a simple syrup of equal parts of water and sugar: 3/4 of a cup and boil it.  Let it cool then mix in to the beer in a 5 gal bucket before I put into bottles.
This assures an equal distribution of the sugar into the flat beer.
