Beer/beer kit expiration

Question
My friend gave me 2 cases of John Bull beer making kits. The expiration on the bottom of the can is August 2005. He said only the yeast goes bad. As you know these kits are not cheap but is it worth my time or do I just buy new ones?

Answer
the yeast would definitely not be suitable.Expiration dates are normally based on worst case conditions, that the product was kept.I have no idea how those cans were kept. It's your call.If it were me,I would replace the yeast, and give it a go,since there would be no cost to me,other than the yeast and my time and labor.Again it's your call
