Hi Guy's,

I was very interested in hearing what happened to Schlitz Beer. I live in Scotland, and have fond memories of drinking Schlitz beer at parties in my teens. It was very popular in Scotland in the early to late 1980's.Can you still purchase it from anywhere other than in the states?

best regards

It's also available in the in North Carolina. A great beer for $2.09 (6 pack).
Remember the tv ad where the former owner said "Taste my Schlitz". Well I tasted it in high school and still buy it. I put all the money they save on advertising in my pocket.

I was wondering what happened to Schlitz beer. I've recently had a hankering for that dry, unique taste but I haven't seen Schlitz in years - that's why I just Googled the name. I thought the Coors and A-B salesman pushed it off the shelves. Oh well, another good blue collar beer ruined by the megabreweries/Pabst/Heileman. By the way, for you football historians, 1950's Baltimore Colts great Artie Donovan was a Schlitz salesman after he left football because he loved the brew so much - he didn't really need the money! During a local radio football talk show he did with Ordell Braase, he would pop open a beer while advertising for Miller Brewing, but the cans he opended were always Schlitzs.

Schlitz beer is also now available here in Georgia, and it tastes very much like the brew I enjoyed 'way too much of as a Marquette U student (in Milwaukee) in the late 50s.

The can also looks very much like one they had back then - white with the blue "world" and diagonal script with brown background. I tend to think it's the "original" flavor, 'tho who knows how many variations may have come and gone since then. This can also alleges that the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co. is currently located in P.O. Box 739, Milw., WI 53201. Must be one helluva P O Box! I also find it interesting that Googling brings up NO J S B Co website or ads of any kind.

I'm a life-long beer lover about to turn 70. I lived in Germany for five years and fell in love with the many excellent Pilseners over there (e.g., Dortmunder Union, Jever, D A B)- to the extent that I really could not enjoy any U.S. "macro-brew" when I got back. Well, this current Schlitz (it's NOT the malt liquor, and NOT "light" or "ice") stands up quite well against those Europeans: well-hopped, clean finish, and just enough body, especially for hot-weather enjoyment. And at $7.00 for 12 cans it's a tremendous bargain. I hope they keep it going ! I've found it in only one store so far - gonna write 'em a snail-mail so I can learn more about the Ga distribution scheme.

About 3 yrs ago I started drinking Schlitz. I'm 34. First time I had it was about 10 yrs. ago. I buy it for about $12 for 24 pounders. I'm from Belle Vernon, PA., near Pittsburgh.

Actually I prefer Schlitz and as a beer drinker, I think it's the best regular beer in America. I don't know what the old beer tasted like; but the present brew is the best. I don't know how they managed to blow the business but I'd bet it would make a fine mystery novel. It is still a great product at a great price.

Schlitz beer is still available. I can't say what it used to taste like but the present brew is great. As a long time beer lover, I can say that it is more than just another bargain beer. Prices are determined mostly by advertising not quality. If quality were the ruling factor Budvar, the original Bud, would be a big brand.Schlitz as an ordinary brew is cheap and is far more than an ordinary beer. I only wish I could distribute the stuff. People don't know what they are missing.

Look for Schlitz NOW
The brand got a very nice face lift. Comes in 12-pack bottles and 6-pack bottles. Have not seen the new packaging in cans yet. Pricing was questionable? More than Miller lite? Have to take baby steps before you can become a strong brand again. Get people sampling it again.

And Schlitz has not died. They are reintroducing the Classic 1960's Formula in the Tampa and Minneapolis markets as we speak.

Schlitz is available in cans here in NJ. It is being test marketed in bottles in Fla. and Minn.
My friends and I think it is the best beer out there.

Between Miller and Bud all the good old beers are no longer made--only the names are still around. It will be a cold day when either Miller or Bud figure out how to make a good beer!

As an update to the question about the current status of Schlitz beer, just recently in a couple of test markets they have re-released their beer brewed in the recipe from the early 70's and in the old style brown bottles. They appear to be making a push to re-establish themself in the current beer market. Hope this helps.

I live on Long Island New York. Schlitz beer is always available at Waldbaums and King Kullen supermarkets and I think is still is a pretty good beer - a lot better than Bud.

I grew up in Milwaukee during the 70's.Schlitz was a strong brewery at the time.I was in my 20's at the time with little money.Luckily,I had many friends, with relatives that worked for the Schlitz Brewery.
They(with their employee discount)assisted me my beer supply.Needless to say I have become an authority on Schlitz Beer. All I can say is...thank the Gods that it is still the great beer that I remember!!!! Now....if they could only bring back their premium beer,Encore.
