Question
We have a 6 month old daughter and would like to start an investment for her college or future.  What is the best investment?  

Answer
US Savings bonds obtained from a local bank is the best. They accumlate tax free and pay around 4.5%. I do not think the market will do very well in the next 5 years, so I recommend this riskless USA government savings bond idea where you can put away $25 or more anytime for as long as you wish.
