Question Hey there...
My friend and I are toying with a trip to Belize. We love hiking, snorkeling and new adventures. She is concerned there is political problems there; I am not too worried. Should we be? And.... we are looking at the cheapest places to stay-are these hostel type places safe to your knowledge? any other advice? We are both well traveled-but as we get older-we get more - concerned about these things? thanks for your help-Babs

I love to travel and of all the places I've been- I've found Belize to be the most receptive to Americans. I have not heard of any polotical problems.
Belize will not be cheap- unless you do stay in the hostel type places and naturally the standards for cheap lodging fall far below what Americans are used to. Holiday Inn type standards are considered upscale and you'll pay more than in the US. You'll also have to rent a car which is more than here, but there is a bus system which I've never used.
But for the adventure, Belize is great. The snorking and hiking are awesome.
