Bermuda/Taking a NCL Cruise from Boston in August
Expert: Michael - 2/7/2008
QuestionDear Michael, We will be a group of 15 taking a cruise in August. We range in age from 6 to 72. Everyone in the family loves the beach. We will be docked in St. George. Will it be difficult for us to get to a beach. What is the best beach. Grandma has high standards and will be needing a nice restroom. Thanks for your help.
AnswerKathleen,
St. George will be perfect for you. You'll love it! A quaint and cosy three hundred year old village. And it will be a good spot to see the rest of the island from as the island is tiny. Do think about renting a "Blue flag" taxi for a tour. Perhaps you could find a van for six or eight and split the cost.
In St. George the primary beach is Tobacco Bay with all the facilities. Second is Achillies Bay, private to the St. George Club but sort of open to the public. Most "boat people" go to Tobacco. It is a fifteen minute walk or a five minute cab ride from either Peno's Wharf or Ordinance Island where you will have a berth.
As for the best beach... they are found on the southshore. Horseshoe Bay, Jobson's cove and a stretch down that way. You can see them on the Bermuda Handy Reference Map. Call 1.800.bermuda to request one along with the bus schedule. You won't be disappointed in either Tobacco or Archillies either.
Happy planning!
Michael
