Question
Hi Michael! My fiance and I are planning a Bermuda wedding in Oct. 2008. We will be coming via cruise with our family -port King's Wharf/Dockyard. We have a very limited budget, have not been to Bermuda before, and are open to other suggestions. However, I am thinking to do the ceremony at St. Catherine's Fort/Achilles Bay and then have a small celebration reception in town, perhaps at Blackbeard's Hideout. Do you have any thoughts/suggestions on this idea?
thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Heather,

I'm sorry to tell you, but I'll tell you up front.  A quick, short money wedding in Bermuda will be out.  Bermuda has regulations relating to wedding on the island.

(I think) It may be a requirement to hire someone to put it together for you.  The government requires papers of sorts, certificates of sorts. I am certain that you just can't come to Bermuda and be married.  The financial aspect would in no way be limited.

Perhaps you could be married on the ship by the captain, or whoever would do vows.  Then when you made port a celebration could be had.  This information about being married on the ship could be acquired from the cruise line.   For a small number of people the Sunday Brunch at The Carriage House in St. George would be perfect.  The brunch is approximately $30 to $35 including grats, a fabulous, fabulous brunch and includes champagne.  The location is very picturesque on a harbor and the village of St. George is quaint.  I am also certain that the Carriage House could set you and your small group up lovely.

Happy planning!
Michael
