Bermuda/Transportation Around Bermuda

Question
QUESTION: Hi Aruna,

We are a family of four traveling to Bermuda for one week in August and wonder what is the most economical way to get around from place to place?  We have two children, ages three and two months.  Is there a bus pass that we can buy for the week that allows unlimited travel or is it better to pay for each time we use the bus?  How much would that cost and would we need to buy one for the children as well?  Can we purchase a pass at the airport and how convenient is the local transportation (how often do the buses run and how early/late do they run?)?

Thanks for any advice,
Bryan

ANSWER: Bryan,

The best option for you would be to buy 2 adult transport passes (children under 5 are free) and they are unlimited for whatever amount of days you buy them for, (e.g. buy a 7 day pass, unlimited buses AND ferries for 7 consecutive days)
The buses are very frequent and run right up until the midnight-ish, so you can always catch a bus. Ferries are limited, and run to dockyard and st. georges (and other places too, but they're mostly residential and not of interest). You cannot buy a pass at the airport, but you can buy them at bus or ferry terminals in Hamilton. Or, some hotels sell them, depending on how far away they are to the terminals.

I hope this was helpful.
Enjoy the vacay!

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response, Aruna.  I forgot to ask, how long does it take to go from one end of the island to the other by bus?

Bryan

Answer
Well the buses don't run from one end to the other, the main terminal is in Hamilton, in the middle of the island. So you'd have to get off one bus and another. But it wouldn't take that long, about 2 hours. But, if you wanted to go from St. Georges to Dockyard, you could take the ferry (during the week only) and it would only take 1hr 40 mins.
