Bermuda/fishing from the shore
Expert: Aruna Dismont - 7/13/2008
QuestionHi Aruna,
Will be in Bermuda 1st week of October. Can you recommend and area for fishing from either a dock or beach area? We will be on a cruise ship docked in the King's Wharf area.
Hope the hurricane (Bertha) and any others miss you and us!!
Thank you,
George
AnswerGeorge,
In terms of fishing, there are a few places I would recommend. Flatt's, in Smiths parish, has a good dock to fish from, and Harrington Sound road, by Harrington Sound Primary, also has a good dock for fishing. At Flatts, there are two sides that you can fish on, on either side of the bridge. There are also many places to fish on the north shore, and on the south shore. The best place to fish is off the rocks on the north and south shore, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are not used to it. The rocks are sharp, and not very convenient. But if you don't mind, many public parks and beaches will have a rocky area where you can fish off of. The rocky areas on the edges of the beaches are the deepest areas. Astwood park has good fishing rocks, as do many other areas along south shore.
You could also do fishing with the Jolly Roger fishing boat. They go out daily, and its a group cruise so its low cost, and they take you to the places you probably couldn't get to on our own. Going out away from the shore is best.
One side note: in terms of fishing, and ones that you can eat-parrot fish are illegal to catch. They are blue and orangish (hence the name) and hang around reefs. You can always spot them, they stick out. They are illegal to catch, and taste horrible anyways. Also, squirrel fish, which are red and have very large eyes, are also uneatable. I'm not sure if you are looking to gut and eat these fish, but I just wanted to give you a heads up, just in case.
