Question
I will be going to Bermuda in August Via a cruise line that will be docking at the Naval dockyard. The ship will be in port from 10 am on a monday and depart 4 pm the next day. We want to maximize our visit to Bermuda. What is the best beach and how do you get there from the dockyard.

Answer
Hi Bill,

To define "the best" beach in Bermuda is a tough thing to do.  I'd prefer to approach your question this way:  If I had only one day to visit a beach in Bermuda, which would it be?  That said, I'd take a bus or taxi from Dockyard to Horseshoe Bay on the South Shore.  Lots of other folks would do this, too, but they might miss out on the walk from Horseshoe Bay to Warwick Long Bay.

Depending upon the time of your arrival and the length of your stay at Horseshoe, it's possible to make this walk during low tide.  With a pair of "reef runner" type shoes, you can easily walk without cutting your feet on the rocks along the ocean during low tide.

Without a pair of "reef runners," and during high tide, you can still make the walk, but along the trail side instead of the ocean side.  Either way, you'll be able to enjoy a few nearly private coves, a few nice dips in the ocean and glorious scenery.

Most visitors who come by cruise ship simply don't know that the little beaches and coves don't stop at Horseshoe Bay - they continue along the coast.  It's beautiful.

Enjoy!
