Bermuda/bermuda taxi

Question
Hi Nan, I will be cruising to Bermuda with sons 14 & 15.  Docking at King's Wharf and taxi to Horseshoe beach.  Is fares per person?  What might be another less crowded beach?  Trip is early July?

Answer
Hi Diane,

Since I don't know how long you'll be in Bermuda, I'd recommend that you stick to your Horseshoe Bay beach plan.  But as you and your boys walk along the ocean, keep walking (with the ocean on your right) -- past the hordes of tourists -- and you'll find a series of small coves and another long, sandy beach which is Warwick Long Bay.  (You can either take the trail or walk along the ocean if the tide is low.  Be careful and be sure to wear footwear such as "reef-runners" to protect against the sharp rock edges.)  I'm sure you'll really enjoy these little coves and Warwick Long Bay.  Sometimes, we've been the only people on the beach on our visits there.

The taxi ride could run around $35 - $40 for your group of three. Tip around 10% of the fare.  Consider sharing a taxi with more folks to save a few dollars, but be aware that you might pay more for a larger group.  You might also consider a bus pass which would be cheaper.  Available at Dockyard (your port of call).

Keep in mind that traveling around in wet bathing suits is frowned upon  in Bermuda, so take a cover up or change your clothes after your visit before loading into a taxi or bus.  One more note... taxis can be hard to find on Friday and Saturday nights.

Enjoy your trip!
