Bermuda - Moving to Bermuda - dress code

Expert: Michael - 9/20/2009

Question
Hello Michael, I will shortly be moving to Bermuda in early October from Wales (I cant  wait!!). As I am initially moving all my things over in 2 suitcases, I am getting concerned as to what to take regarding Bermudan dress codes. Could you please advise on dress requirements for nights out dining/socialising and daytime wear. I have also heard that for some establishments a "sports coat/jacket" is required...in Wales we are not familiar with this term - is this a blazer jacket/suit jacket or a lightweight blouson jacket? I have also heard the description of "slacks"..is this a chino type cotton trouser? Hope you can help, many thanks in advance. Leigh

Answer
Hi Leigh:

Bermuda dress code:
Business - Knee length shorts (you have none)with knee high socks (you have none). Where a suit jacket (sports coat) is required, it is worn with the outfit along with dress shoes.

Dining in the evening at a nice establishment wearing the above would be appropriate. Otherwise, this formal dress is not required.

All visitors from the US just where long slacks, a snappy shirt and shoes for dinner.  Shorts, a golf type shirt and sneakers for lunch.

Blazer = Suit Jacket
Slacks = chino type cotton trouser.

Happy planning!
Michael
