Bermuda/Affordable student getaway to Bermuda
Expert: Michael - 7/9/2002
QuestionHi Michael,
I am a doctoral student and I intend to vacation in Bermuda during the first week of August. I did mention doctoral student meaning I have very limited funds. Can you recommend any means necessary for my vacation to Bermuda to be affordable. I know it is one of the more expensive islands so any recommendation you can offer will be a great one.
Thanks,
Carla
AnswerSure Carla,
Do look up Salt Kettle House in Salt Kettle. A lovely little place with kitchen availability.
Salt Kettle House is accross the Sound from Hamilton. Best access from and to Hamilton is the ferry. Very handy. But accessibility to the bus stop is a bit further than most places so you could figure on a moderate to short walk. Of course a moped would be absolutely perfect here (they deliver).
The rates are extrodinary. Low. This is perhaps the best bet in Bermuda for a divine vacation. And maybe the best kept secret as being such. She has a few rooms with kitchen as well as others with access to the kitchen.
Give her a call and if she is booked be creative asking to be notified in the event of cancellations.
You can find Salt Kettle House on the Department of Tourism website www.bermudatourism.com, or my favorite search engine www.google.com.
You may even inquire with Tourism at (800)BERMUDA. Do ask for a Ferry Schedule, Bus Schedule, and Handy Reference Map.
This is about the best you will do for a great vacation in Bermuda.
Contrary to contemporary tourists dining does not have to be expensive. Pubs are a big big part of Bermuda as the island is under the influence of the queen. From Fish & Chips to burgers, or full coarse dinners. Wicked good. The setting at most is fabulous. I prefer those on waters edge. And you can enjoy restaurants that offer early bird specials. There are even places like Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Paradisio's in Hamilton, and The Scoop on Front Street where you can enjoy a sandwich or pizza for short money. And all these places will provide for you a truly Bermudan experiance.
Happy planning!
Michael
