Bermuda/Getting Around
Expert: Michael - 3/20/2004
QuestionWe plan to visit Bermuda in May, arriving via cruise ship. Ports will be St. George and Hamilton. Can we easily get off the ship in each port, and be within walking distance of the main attractions, or must we take public transportation? Thank you.
AnswerHi Lauren,
Sorry for the delay. I thought I answered you inquiry when it came it but apparently didn't hit the required key strokes.
The ports in St. George and Hamilton offer the best of the best. In Hamilton you will dock immediately on Front Street stepping onto the wonder of Bermuda. Shopping, pubs and Fort Hamilton are right there. The bus depot is just up a block or two. There you can take Bus #7 to the southshore. Albouy's Point is a minnute walk down the harbour where you can take the Ferry to Sommerset or the Dockyard if you are so inclined. The Ferry is a nice ride, but you will have just come off a ship. bahahaha. So be it.
In St. George you will make port at eioth Ordinance Island, the heart of St. George, or Penno's Wharf, merely the end of the shopping district. About a quarter mile from Ordinance Island. So either will be no problem for you. St. George will have small shops and a few pubs immediately at hand. A tem minute walk to Tobacco Bay and fifteen or so to Fort St. Cathernine. If you plan to golf this is the place. A short taxi ride will take you to the St. George Gold course. Good rates as it is a government run links, and wonderful views. The back nine are extra special as they are all a par three and the views are to die for.
Public transportation will only be required from St. George if you intend to vist the Swizzle Inn, Crystal Caves and the Perfume factory which are all in the same area. A fifteen minute bus ride.
Happy planning!
Michael
