Bermuda/Off the Beaten Path in Bermuda

Question
Dear Michael,

I am looking to get out of the country for a little over a week in mid-June.  I am strongly considering Bermuda for a number of reasons: family on the island, accessibility, history, reputation, etc.

I was wondering if cycling or moped-ing around the island and camping at night was a possibility in Bermuda.  Is it safe?  Legal?  Realistic?  Do hostels exist on the island?

I enjoy the backpacking method of travel, and I would love to explore Bermuda in that fashion.  Should I start planning my trip?  Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Answer
Hi Nick,

You list all good reasons to consider Bermuda in June.

Mopeding around the is a great way to explore and get around.  The bus system is very functional too.

Camping will not be possible for a tourist.  It is simply not allowed.  I don't believe there are any hostels in Bermuda.

Bermuda is a well developed small country and enjoys one of the world's highest standards of living.  A buget Bermuda will run not much less than $125.00 to $150.00 per night hotel, guest house or apartment w/o breakfast, maybe a kitchen.  Look up Crooked Elbow or Salt Kettle.  Both are small homes, or apartments.

Happy planning!
Michael
