Bermuda/Bermuda - April/May
Expert: Michael - 6/16/2005
QuestionHi Michael,
My husband & I are going to Bermuda next year & were wondering whether it would be best to go in April or May. Is it still classed as "off season" in April? We enjoy temperatures in the 70's but not much hotter (we're from Scotland & are not used to the heat!) and hope April/May will be warm enough to enjoy the watersports.
We also fancy staying at Cambridge Beaches. Are there good snorkelling areas around there?
Thanks for your help!
AnswerDear Shona,
This sounds to me like you will be visiting Bermuda for the first time. Oh what you have in store for yourselves!
And of all places Cambridge Beaches. Lovely. Among the best of the best. You will receive Bermudian hospitality, wonderful food, beautiful surroundings in both the common property areas and your cottage.
"Off Season" for Bermuda ends mid March. Because June begins the summer months of hot and humid, my preference of April or May would be May simply because it is a bit warmer.
The air temprature (from a 50 year mean):
April runs a high of 70.8F with a low being 62.5F
May runs a high of 75.4F with a low of 67.8F
The surface sea temperature:
April will be 68F
May will be 72.1F
Because Cambridge Beaches has seven or so beaches amonst small islands I think the snorkeling can keep you busy. If your intention was to snorkle above reefs then a snorkling cruise may be in order. There is also a snorkling trail down at the Dockyard with underwater markers of sorts to follow. I have never done this but it is what they advertise.
Shona, I have not found Bermuda to be a snorkeling capitol, but interesting enough to break up my day or something to do while lazing on the pink sanded beaches and tired of reading an engrossing novel.
You will love Bermuda and you can look forward to an enchanted vacation that will peak your senses.
Michael
