Question
Hi Nan, know any places where two person can stay paying under $1000.00? We know Bermuda is expensive, but also believe there must be something or someone out there with a room or an emoty house they are willing to rent for a short period April 5th to April 20th. Thanks

Answer
Hi Marcia!

I was so excited that I could recommend a great place for the two of you for 16 nights at around $680 per person.  Sound and ocean views on the South Shore.  Walking distance of Horseshoe Bay.  That was until I read your question again and noticed your travel month is April.  This place doesn't accept guests until May. Darn it.

But, I can recommend the Sandpiper Apartments which rents efficiencies beginning April 1.  16 nights = $2400 ($1200 per person).  You didn't specify whether you're looking to spend $1,000 per person or as a couple -- actually, your question could have been interpreted both ways.  Sandpiper is on the South Shore which puts you in a nice position for beach access and a quick trip into Hamilton by public transportation or scooter.  You won't have a dramatic ocean view, but you'll have a good location with the ability to save funds by preparing your own meals.  A good value.  These apartments are the most cost efficient that I have found that I'd personally stay in.  Clean, good value.

However, you do have another option.  Try "googling" apartment rentals in Bermuda and you'll find agents who represent home owners who rent rooms/homes/cottages while they're away.  Now, having said that, I've found these to be more expensive, but it's worth a try.  Ask for a cheaper rate.  You're staying well over a week; some rental income is better than no rental income, eh?

And still another option... visit the Bermuda Tourism website and check out the cottages/apartments/efficiencies section of the accomodation pages.  But you must hurry.  April 5 is closer than you think.

One more idea is to visit the Bermuda Shorts website where you'll find a forum to ask questions of fellowing Bermuda travellers.

My own experience has been the properties I mentioned above as well as searching for apartments in homes.

There's beginning to be an abundance of executive type hotels for longer term stays (and even shorter ones).  One thing I'd suggest is that you ask for a rate that's more comfortable for your budget -- especially at smaller properties.  You'll never know if you don't ask, so don't be shy about it.

April is a bit early for typical warm water sports, etc., but delightful nonetheless.

Happy Travels!
