Bermuda/Bermuda in October?

Question
Hi Nan,
I am trying to plan a trip to Bermuda from Oct 23-30 for either 2 or 4 people. I am from Florida and I am used to warm water... I was wondering if the water temp in Bermuda will be comfortable for snorkeling and swimming while I am there? Also, you said you know how to plan on a budget, can you recommend a cool place to stay that will give me the beachy Bermuda feeling, but not break my bank?

Thanks in advance!
emily

Answer
Hi Emily!

Lots of Bermudians enjoy water sports year round.  But you might find the water temps a bit chilly in late October. Last year, for example, the air temperature on October 24 was 79F and the water temp was 77F.  Visit www.bermudashorts.bm and click through to the Bermuda weather site where you can see temps for the last several years.  Only you know what you're comfortable with in terms of water temperatures! And, only you know what your budget is for this trip.  I can tell you this: Bermuda is beautiful. With an abundance of water sports to enjoy. And lots more.  No matter what time of year you visit.  In terms of a "beachy feeling", well, perhaps you might consider another destination if staying on the beach at affordable prices is what you're after.  To be sure, there are fantastic accommodations on the beach from Elbow Beach to Cambridge Beaches to Ariel Sands -- from which to choose, but the prices are not what I'd call "budget".  Check out B&B's and Cottage accommodations (efficiency apartments) in locations close to what you're after.  Granaway, Little Pomander, Salt Kettle, The Wharf -- all offer more affordable accommodations close to or on the water. And you might check out an apartment rental.  My own personal budget accommodations in high season offer not a beach/ocean front experience, but rather a convenient location with a knockout view at a price under a $100 a night for two.  Including service charges and taxes.  I hope you find this helpful. Send another question if you have more. Please enjoy Bermuda!
