Question
Hi Michael,
We will be cruising to Bermuda this July 8 on the Zenith.  We will be in Hamilton for 2 days and St. Georges for a day and a half.  We would like to rent a whaler for a few hours to tool around the island.  Where would be the best place to rent it from and where could we go?

Thanks,
Jeanne

Answer
Hi Jeanne,

I have never rented a whaler but it is on my "things to do " list.

Closer to St. George is Blue Hole Water Sport.  They are located at Grotto Bay Beach.  Where you would cruise is up to you.  The operators may recommend your course.  The Blue Hole Water Sport company finds itself in Castle Harbour, just inside from the North shore.

Across form Hamilton in Somerset, located right at the Somerset Bridge, is Somerset Bridge Watersports.

I'm thinking for myself here ... when I finally rent one I figure I may go from the later.  My reasoning is that the ocean may be rough and because the reef locations are unknown to me I may best be suited to motor around the Great Sound, perhaps even stopping off in Hamilton for lunch somewhere.

It sounds like great fun.  Aquaintances speak highly of it.  Figure a minimum of a four hour rental with an hour travel on each side.

When arriving do pick up a copy of the Handy Reference Map at a Visitors Welcome kiosk.  This will at least navigate you on the island.  A water navigation map may come with the rental.

Happy planning!
Michael
