Bermuda/Bermuda weather/hotels
Expert: Michael - 5/1/2007
QuestionWe are planning a week in Bermuda, either in September or November. We love beaches and warm weather, but like cool breezes at night. Which month do you recommend?
In addition, we are planning to stay at the Mandarin Oriental (we have stayed at MO's in D.C. and Oahu). Would you comment on our choice? Thanks so much.
AnswerHi Shelley,
What a great selection. No kidding. Your choice is a 10+. The famed Elbow Beach. That stretch of pink beach may be synonymous with the word Bermuda, Elbow Beach. I mean after Horseshoe Bay, Elbow may be the next most recognized beach on the lovely island chain.
In addition to the pristine pink sanded beach open to the Southshore, you are considering a top notch highly acclaimed hotel. A darling of a large resort having many restaurants and all the bells and whistles that give a resort distinction. And it will give to you a great degree of the Bermuda experience. The hospitality will be Bermudian but the service will have a European standard. That is to say when you sit down for breakfast not only may a newspaper be put in your lap but a cup of coffee will be poured as you are seated. That's what I mean by the European standard, versus waiting a short while before you get your coffee. Sometimes we Americans don't understand relaxing and waiting the Bermudian way. I don't mean to stay the Bermudian standard is less appreciated. I happen to love it. I just want to try and show you what your service will be like. The hospitality will be much Bermudian and over the top.
The resort is centrally located. Well situated to explore the island by either scooter or on the very functional bus system.
You love beaches. Bermuda will wow you. Being situated on the Southshore you will be within only a few minutes access of other wonderful beaches. Once you get a copy of the Handy Reference Map you can see for yourself where they are and visit them. Call (800-BERMUDA) and request one. Also the Transportation schedule and maybe the Railway Trail Guide and whatever else they have for first timers. You are in for such a treat Shelley!
September is much more apropos for what you seek. Warm weather, perfect sea surface temperature, a bit less humid (than summer) in the evening for a leisurely stroll to listen and enjoy the night sounds of Bermuda ...
September is still very much high season and November borders the winter or shoulder season. For Linda and I September is prime. I dare say it would be for you too Shell.
Because you have visited MO's in D.C. and Oahu and are familiar with their caliber, Mandarin Oriental's Elbow Beach, Bermuda, in September would be perfect for you.
Feel free to inquire if you have any further questions.
Happy planning!
Michael
