Question
Where is the best place to stay for the money?  We are going to a wedding nov3-7 at ariel sands.  Is it possible to rent a moped for the week?  How much is it and where is the best place to rent one?  what are some things that wouildn't be on touristy sites that are something 30ish young professionals looking for a party would like to do, see or go.   Where is the red light district?  hehehehe.  We are looking to have fun and enjoy ourselves, no kids!")

Answer
Hello Beth,

There is not much available for short money in Bermuda.  But you ask .. the best bang for the buck.

There is no question Beth that the Rosedon is a great pick.  It is catagorized as a small hotel, but I think of it as a B&B.  It has a main building, the home, and two garden wings that surround a pool.  Delightful!

What makes Rosedon special to me among other things is that breakfast may be included.  A hot breakfast served to your room, or pation or at the pool has charm.  The "among other things" are afternoon tea served at 4PM with tiny finger sandwiches served in the common areas.  They have an honor bar where you can make yourself drinks and sit in the common rooms to talk or meet people or watch TV.  At the end of the week you tell thim how many drinks you had and you settle up.  One of the best features is that they offer complimentary R.T. taxi to Stonigton for use of their beach. Very nice.

The Rosedon is an enjoyable 3-4 minute walk from Front Street and accross the street from the Fairmont Princess if you care to kick it up a couple notches at night in their pub.  You would be close to the ferry at Alboys Point, a bus stop and the bus depot too.

Oleander Cycles will deliver to you anywhere you stay.  They are in Hamilton also if you care to walk to them.  By the way, Bermudians are intently keen on seeing that you have a nice vacation.  The staff anywhere you stay will make these arrangement for you if you like.  The cost for a week reserving with the 10% online discount (www.oleandercycles.bm)is $212.00 for the delux two seater.  You can rent by the day or three days etc.  Oleander is my choice.  A single is about $190ish for the week.

There is absolutly no red light district or anything that comes close to one.  Bermuda is under the influence of the queen and is rather proper.  Hone up on the queens wave!  hehe

As to what may be going on ... pubs are in for lunches, dinners or drinks.  You can make friends or just see what Burmudians are like at the pubs.  You will find them all over the island and Burmudians in general are friendly people.  My preference for pubs are the scenic ones along a harbour, and of course the famed Swizzle Inn.  Big entertainment is not available unless for instance the Jazz Frestival was in town.  You can checkout what is happening in Bermuda on thiose dates at www.bermudatourism.com or call them at (800)BERMUDA and ask what's in town those dates.

Do go to the southshore beaches.  Do checkout St. George.
For the most part Beth, Bermuda is tranquil and a joy for the senses.  Relax and breath it in.  Expore it on the mopeds.  Bermuda is developed and enjoys a high standard of living.  One thing I can just about gaurantee you Beth is that Bermuda will be the most beautiful place you will ever go.  Especially without kids Bermuda will take you over the top. hehe

A good second choice is Salt Kettle House.  Look them up on a search engine or call the Department of Tourism for pricing.  They will be much less expensive than the Rosedon.  Linda and I have not stayed there but an aquaintance of mine has and she speaks highly of Salt Kettle House.

Don't hesitate to write if you have any further inquiries.

Happy planning!
Michael
