Question
I'm thinking of booking Grotto Bay Beach Club in July.  I noticed on the map it is near the airport.  Is this a noise problem?  Is there an advantage to lodging farther away from Hamilton? (It seems most lodging is located on the Hamilton side of the island.) What is your opinion of Grotto Bay?  We have 2 adults and one child, age 8.  Thank you in advance.

Answer
Dear Joanne,

Grotto Bay Beach Club in July is very well worth your consideration.

The airport will not be a problem.  Kindley field is nothing like O'Hare, Logan or BWI.  Noise pollution should not be a consideration.  Honest.

There is no advantage to lodging farther away from Hamilton.  Perhaps a disadvantage, but minor given that your meals will be included (I am making an assumption) and you will have a lovely beach at Grotto Bay.  What I am saying is that you will most likely want to visit Hamilton not to dine but shop, and the Southshore at least once to enjoy said beaches.  The bus will be 20-25 minutes to town and another 15-20 to the southshore.

Grotto Bay has always caught my eye having hopes of one day staying there.  We did dine one evening with our kids at Grotto Bay and the staff was so kind, making a deal of the kids, that the kids still remember the evening.

The pricing is very good considering Bermuda rates.  However, if you are quoted rates equal to something on the southshore, say the Stonington, or Sonesta, then I would recommend you consider the southshore as there beaches are primere.

Joanne, Grotto will take good care of your requirements and the 8 year older will have fun exploring the on-site caves.  The Swizzle Inn and Ice Cream Parlor, as well as bus stop are close by, meaning within walking distance.

With the considerations mentioned I feel the location of GB is good.  Handy to St. George via bus and even John Smith's Bay.

Lastly, I am aquainted with a frequent visitor to Bermuda who always choose Grotto Bay Beach Hotel reporting high marks and ravings.

Don't hesitate to write if you have any further specifics.

Happy planning!
Michael
