Question
We will be in Bermuda again (lost count, about 11 or 12 times so far) and stay on Boaz Island.  It may be too early to ask this (our local town, school and church fairs only publicize about 1 month in advance), but do you know of any fairs (not the street fair in Hamilton) for the week of May 10-17?  We went to one 4 years ago (2 trips ago) and had the best time.  Homemade "glass" candy, craft items, face painting, etc.  If I am too early, could you keep this in mind as the time gets closer and email me with any you find?

Thank you in advance,
Barbara

Answer
Hello Barbara,

My records indicated that I resopnded to your request for info, but AllExperts tells me otherwise.  Crazier things have happened I suppose.  So sorry for the mix up if in fact there was.

I can tell you that Bermuda does indeed have unregular events on a regular basis if that makes sense.  hehe

I will recommend to you to go to the Department of Tourism at http://www.bermudatourism.com and click on SPECIAL EVENTS.  From there click on CLICK HERE TO SEARCH OUR CALENDAR OF EVENTS.  From there add your bullet (or select)DATE RANGE and type in the fields FROM: 5/10/2004 and TO: 5/17/2004.  Then click on VIEW CALENDAR.

You will see many events listed some of which may draw you.  Do keep in mind that this site is regularly updated so keep checking back.  You may also call the Bermuda Depatment of Tourism at (800)BERMUDA and inquire with them for specific events should they know of any.

Good luck in your search for activity and have a nice vacation.

One last thing.  There are on the island of Bermuda two sea glass beaches.  These are beaches were multi colored pieces of glass worn down by the sea are washed up.  If you happen to go to a beach to collect some of this glass in blue (the rarest), green, brown, red and white listen for the tinkle tinkle as the was was the tiny pieces up.  Very nice indeed.
Linda, my wife enjoys this and collects the tiny fragments 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches in irregular shapes to make gifts for her sisters.  A candle in a plate or colorful dish with a short 2" diameter candle with the glass around it makes a nice gift.  I think you get the picture.

The two beaches Barbara are Alexander Battery in St. George, quite a ways form from where you will be staying is where we go.  The smaller of the two beaches.  The sea glass beach down the end where you will be staying may be called Soldiers Cemetary.  Do ask arounfd for the correct name and the right buss stop.

Happy planning!
Michael
