Question
Hi! We are hoping to get married in Bermuda this October! First, we would like to make it legal in the United States is there anyway that we can do that over on the island? Do we have to file all of our paperwork and getting married in the US and then have the ceremony on the island? Do you know anyone who performs weddings in bermuda?

Thanks,

Amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda,

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

I have to say that I am NO EXPERT in this subject, but I have researched your question a bit because it's a good one. There are several websites that I'd suggest you visit for information about getting married in Bermuda:

--by far and away, my information source of choice is the bermudatourism.com website (where you'll find a PDF file called "Marriage in Bermuda" complete with a list of local wedding planners, some with international offices).

There are no blood tests or health certificates required, but you must publish your intent to marry in the local papers, pay fees and file paperwork.

Weddings and honeymoons in Bermuda are very popular and I'm sure you'll find the information you need through one of these sources.  Or, you can simply call the Registry General Office in the Government Administration Building in Hamilton  to speak with someone directly at 441-297-7709 or 441-297-7707 (they also have a website www.registrygeneral.gov.bm).  Here you'll file your notice of intended marriage.

Best of luck to you and yours and thank for asking this question so that I could learn something about the subject matter!  If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.
