Hi There Michael,

We are going in October, 2 couples, and will be in Bermuda for 1 1/2 days... we talked about renting mopeds to see the island... what do you think? Thanks... Hank

Hi Hank,

Mopeds are great!  Now a-days they actually rent scooters.  Mopeds are of course motorized and have pedals.  Years back Linda and I used them.  Bahaha.

In any event, they are still referred to as mopeds and come available as a single and a double.  I am comfortable riding a double.  They are a bit larger, only slightly, and have enough power to get you anywhere as fast as you like.

A bike will give you much flexibilty.  Go anywhere you like and at your liesure.  The bus system is extrodinarily great but the mopeds are even better.

A couple thoughts I would share with you... thoughts I learned from experiance and nothing the rental agency would tell you...

You must be comfortable and not be intimidated, or get nervous from a beep behind you.  

If someone thinks you're going to slow pull over at your liesure, perhaps a bus stop which come often.

Because they drive on the other side of the road remember that "Right is wrong and left is right."

Because the roadways are narrow don't hug the center.  Stay towards the left.  Especially going around a corner when you can't see what's coming towards you.

Give a beep going around a left corner in case someone is walking along the roadway.

Beep at blind curves to warn oncomming that you are there.

Watch the roadway ahead of you for sand.  In particular at a corner where you lean into the turn so the bike will not go out from under you.

I in no way mean to scare you off.  They are a wonderful experiance.
