Question
Is elbow beach near to salt Kettle Road?  Is it is not-what would the nearest beach be to salt kettle road and how long would it take by foot?
Thank you

Answer
Cynthia,

I sense your thinking pink sand.  Nice.

Elbow is indeed the closest by foot.  Salt kettle as you may know is on Hamilton Harbor.  The walk between those points on the island is less than two miles for sure.  Maybe about one and a half miles shaking out at three quarters of an hour depending on where on Harbor road you will be starting.

A few things you may want to put into your equation ...

OInce on the South Road you will have to find the access point for Elbow Beach that is just east of Elbow Hotel as the hotel considers access from their propery private.

The difficulty of the walk will be dependant on your shape and time of year you visit ...  Bermuda in that area may be a bit hilly, and the summer months will be humid.

For the locations of Salt Kettle House and the like a scooter would be perfect.

The closest bus stop will be Middle Road about half the distance accross, or less, from where you could pick up #8 outbound and get off at Barnes Corner.  Church Bay is a short walk from Barnes Corner.  Also from Barnes you could transfer to bus #7 inbound on South Road which will take you to the famed southshore and many beaches.  From your pickup on Middle Road you could go the other direction, inbound and transfer at the intersection of South Road and head back outbound (west).  The pristine public beaches are between Warwick Long and Horseshoe Bay, the latter being the most visited.  You may even walk the distance of shoreline from Warwick Long Beach to Horseshoe Bay enjoying several beaches and views.

Do visit the Department of Tourism website at www.bermudatourism.com or call them at (800)BERMUDA and request a copy of their Bus Schedule and Handy Reference Map.  These will no doubt be beneficial.

Please write is you have any other inquiries.

Happy planning!
Michael
