Bermuda/Parakeet and other food options

QuestionI'm heading for Bermuda next week and staying at the Surf Side Beach Club. Last time I was there (at least 15 years ago) I stayed at Stonington Beach, and remember eating at a place called the Parakeet just down the road. It was sort of diner style if I remember correctly. Do you know if it still exists? I remember liking their fish chowder and milkshakes and thought I would try it again if it was still around. Also, any other small/non-touristy/funky/local style recommendations for places to eat would be appreciated. Thanks.
AnswerHello Bill,
Yes, the Parquet is still in business. Same location.
I've a few other suggestions:
A bit further down the street is Tio Pepe's. Is is on the right hand side of Southshore Road going west (towards Horseshoe Bay)and offers a great view from an outside table looking over the Southshore.
An inexpensive treat would be the consession in Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Tea and sandwiches are offered.
The "Early Bird" special at M.R. Onions in town. Fabulous! A quality dinner at reasonable pricing. 5:00ish to 7ish (but please check with them) for the Early-Bird special.
Third floor in Trimminghams Department store is a small cafe offering dinners and sandwiches. Great pricing.
Also downtown overlooking Front Street and the harbour from the outdoor poarch is "The Scoop." You can have your milkshakes and sandwiches here too.
On Reid Street, just off of Queen Street downtown is a worthy pastery shop. It used to be the 4-Ways Pastry shop but has changed names. Definately a take. Walking in from Queen Street it is on the left. Tiny wrought iron chairs and tables painted white with delicate parteries and sanwiches makes this a nice place when you're in town.
In St. George on Sunday morning if you were drawn towards the traditional Bermuda Cod Fish & Potates I would recommend Angelina's. A little hole in the wall, but if you are mopeding for the slow Sunday, a $10.50 breakfast (more like a diner) brough over to one of the beaches like Archillies Bay, or just up the steet to the Cut would be beatiful. I did this last trip.
Across the street from the Swizzle Inn is Baily's Ice Cream stand. Along with ice cream they sell sandwiches.
All of the above are short money establishments. Another real treat, more like an event, would be the Carriage House Sunday Brunch that runs 11AM to 3PM in St. George. You could dress up here if you like, and be pretty close to heaven. The Brunch is all inclusive and includes champagne too, is $29.00. It consits of al types of hot food, italian, chicken, pork, a hot carving table with lamb and roast beef and an area loaded with desserts. They will have an entertainer on a grand piano for your enjoyment.
Reservations recommended.
Happy planning!
