Bermuda/Pompano

QuestionHi Michael- thank you for your response regarding Coco Reef. We will still be returning to Bermuda for our 20th wedding anniversary, but have decided to go with your advice. We looked at Pompano online and have decided to stay there. We like a smaller, more intimate hotel. Not big, and not too "touristy". I like the fact the there is an exchange progtram for dinners. That way we can still see our old Stonington! Also eat at Reefs and another place ( I forget) The fitness center appeals to my husband, and I can get a fancy drink in the afternoon after a day of exploring. My question this time, is room location. We would like a ocean front room, I think they call them "delux" or "premium". Do you have any preference or can you advise on making a request? Thanks. Susan
AnswerHi Susan,
Nice selection. One thing about Pompano, you will be pampered.
The great expance of sea in front of the club is shallow for what seems at least a quarter mile. I mean the two of you will be able to wade out, way way out and only be to your waist or chest depending on the tide. The beach is small.
I suppose you will rent scooters. As you exit the resort turning right their will be a Shell gas station on your left. It is on the corner of a Tribe road. Turning down here will bring you to a railway trail that you can scooter on. No cars, just scooters. It travels a great distance with the Great Sound on your right. Going as far as you can you will pass the old US Navel Station and then back onto the main roadway. Crossing over Somerset Bridge the entrance to railway trail will again be on your right. You will pass Fort Scour and then be on your way to the Dockyard. Well enough of that...
We stayed in a delux. Looking at their website it was the second tier cottages next to Port Royal. The view was that of the ocean. You can call the Lambs in Waylnd Mass who operate the club. It's a family thing. Their son and daughter-in law run the operation in Bermuda. Or is it heo9r daughter and son-in-law? I gues it doesn't matter. But onine you will find an 800 number. Give them a call.
Do keep in ming that the further back the units are the steeper or higher the walk to and from will be. That unit was nice.
When we stayed there breakfast seating was first come first dips on seating. Dinner was different. We were given a table. ASK THEM FOR A WINDOW SEAT!!!!! Do spend at least one night watching the sunset from the lounge. Things change and the lounge may be different now. Back then there was no fitness center. So there you go.
Back then Susan the food was impeccable. The service incredible. A short story. When we arrived I was still in states mode and upon check-in querried the male receptionist about my transfers home. He laughed and ensured me that we had many nights to sleep yet, and that he would take care of everyting.
One thing about the Dine-Around. Sign up for several resorts each time if you can. Early in case it is a first come first serve. The only way you can dine at another place is if someone at that other resort requested to dine at Pompano.
Do enjoy your trip.
Happy planning!
Michael
