Bermuda/Sights
Expert: Michael - 12/26/2001
QuestionMichael,
How would I find out when and where the Gombey Dancers will be?
How about the Bermuda Regiment? Is that the one that performs once a month?
We will be in Bermuda from June 18-24,2002.
Can we see any of the boats from the Newport to Bermuda Race? Where do they come in ?
Thank you. I have asked you a question before and you have been very helpful. May I give your name and web site to the other 34 family members who will be traveling with me? The children, especially have lots of questions. Thanks.
AnswerHello Rosemary,
I got a message from AllExperts that you did not receive my original response. Bummer.
The Gombey Dancers are allusive. They appear just about anywhere at any time. However, should there be a scheduled holiday or event like New Years Eve, then they would be certain to be at the celebration. Other than that, there is no one place or time that you could look them up.
The Bermuda Regiment is a battalion of perhaps 600 called and/or volunteered members. They are a trained infrantry unit, attack squad and howitzer unit. But what you speak of is there corp of drum and bugle. They most often appear with the Bermuda Bag Pipe band. And yes they appear a couple of times a month at St. George's, Hamilton and the Raval Dockyard. The precise time of performance information is avaialble at a Visitor's Travel kiosk.
June, Rosemary, is a beautiful time to visit this gem. The weather will be wonderful all around. IE, both air and sea. Flowers will be in bloom.
All ships, including those of the Newport To Bermuda Race that enter the Great sound will come in via a channel called Murray's Anchorage. This is at the Western tip of St. George and runs parallel to the North Shore to the entrance of the Great Sound. So anywhere along the North Shore you would see every ship entering Hamilton Harbor. A nice vantage point would be Spanish Point located northwest of the city of Hamilton. You will see it on the handy Vistor's Map. Here I don't think you would find yourself fighting for a stance for viewing. It is a tranquil area.
Feel free to invite the kids or others to querry my. I can only speak of my experiances and what I have learned from my many many visits. I love Bermuda. It is a very special island.
Happy planning!
Michael
